I’m a software developer

I’ve been developing software and architecting software at Automattic for as long as I can remember. I’ve definitely written software that powers things you use, or at least see, every single day. I may not be responsible for the things you click on, but I’ve had a hand in creating many of the things that power things that you might.

The languages that I am most versed in would have to be PHP, and Bash. Go was my first compiled language. I’ve dabbled in others, but not seriously. My choice in languages mostly reflect my professional environment. I use what’s most appropriate for the tasks environment.

My usual editor is Vim. Because it’s usable both remotely via SSH, and locally in my terminal. I prefer to be fluent in the tools that I have available to me at all times and not just the one’s I wish were so.

I’m a gamer

I have loved playing video games since I was a child. Stretching all the way back to playing turn based games on BBS doors back in the 90’s. I have fond memories of playing L.O.R.D, Tele-Arena, MajorMud, Exitilius and Usurper. I went to and hosted LAN parties playing Starcraft, Warcraft, Doom, Quake, Unreal, and the like. These days I’ve loved Ark: Survival Ascended (and before that Evolved), the Souls series (alas, I don’t have a PlayStation so I have not enjoyed Bloodborne, or Demon Souls), and Elden Ring.

Recently I’ve also begin dabbling in modding. So far I’ve only been doing this for Ark: Survival Ascended.

I’m a father

I’ve got two amazing children. And it is, by far the hardest job I’ve ever had.

I’m a lifetime learner

I take great joy in organically learning, and knowing things. For it’s own sake. While I’m nothing like an academic… You could say that I’m an avid observer of the world.
